Willow Midwives
Willow Midwives is a community-based clinic for families in the South Okanagan to access comprehensive midwifery care. We provide care for pregnancy, birth, and up to six weeks postpartum for parents and their newborns. We provide midwifery care for people in Penticton, Naramata, Peachland, Summerland, Okanagan Falls, Oliver, Osoyoos, Keremeos, and Princeton.

During your pregnancy, you will have the opportunity to build relationships with each of your midwives. We look forward to learning what’s important to you during this time so we can provide care that is unique to you and your family.

Midwives are trained to be specialists in low-risk obstetrics and have four years of education focused only on this. We offer our expertise, evidence-based health information, community standards of care, and medical, holistic, and traditional alternatives to support your decision-making process.

Your Care
-
You will get to know two midwives throughout your pregnancy, and a midwife who is known to you will attend your birth.
-
Visits typically last between 30-60 minutes, allowing for physical, emotional and social health assessments.
-
Midwives offer prenatal laboratory tests, genetic screening and diagnosis options, ultrasound imaging and many other tests and procedures.
-
Midwives work collaboratively with obstetricians, nurses, family physicians, pediatricians, and lactation consultants, among others, and consult with specialists as needed if complications arise in your pregnancy.
-
Midwives recognize that people have diverse preferences for their births and respect your right to choose where to birth. We provide safe, attentive care both at Penticton Regional Hospital and at home. In hospital, you will have access to all forms of pain relief, including epidural.
-
After your baby is born, midwives will provide several visits in the first week postpartum in your home, and remaining visits happen in our clinic until six weeks postpartum.
-
Between visits, a midwife is on call 24/7 for urgent care or concerns.
-
You do not need a referral from a healthcare provider to register for care with Willow Midwives. Self-refer by submitting an intake form on our website.
-
Our clinic is located in downtown Penticton, alongside The Milk Clinic with lactation consultant Tiffany Holdsworth-Taylor, RM, IBCLC.
-
Midwifery care is covered through the Medical Services Plan (MSP) for B.C. residents with a Care Card. If you are not covered by the B.C. provincial health care plan, please contact the clinic to discuss options–we do not want cost to be a barrier to care.
Meet The Willow Midwives Team
Willow Midwives is home to four registered midwives. You will be assigned a team of two midwives who you will meet regularly throughout your care. Because we are a small clinic, you will sometimes meet the other team (if your midwives have been up all night catching babies, for example!). You might also meet locum midwives occasionally, who come to the community to support our team when needed.
